    Big River Provides Free Telephone Service To Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation

    Big River Telephone today announced they will be donating their Timeless Talk services to the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation for the upcoming year. The services will provide the foundation with local calling services, unlimited long distance and four calling features.

    “We are so pleased that Big River Telephone has decided to partner with the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation for a second year. We appreciate that Big River Telephone sees the value in what the Foundation is doing for our public school teachers and students and hope that in return our community will support Big River Telephone for their generosity to the Foundation. We hope they will continue to be a community partner for years to come,” said Angie Bender, Executive Director of the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation.

    The Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation will provide resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning and enhance opportunities for all students enrolled in the Cape Girardeau Public School District. The Foundation provides an opportunity for alumni and members of the community to contribute to the well- being of students.

    Billing Update

    A new charge called MO USF will be added to MO customer’s bills and will appear in the tax summary. The MO USF rate is .0018. It is calculated on instate long distance charges + $5 LD fee + local features not considered a tax or surcharge (5th character of the charge code is not equal to T or U). All telecommunications carriers are required to contribute to the Mo USF fund. The Mo USF fund will be used to assist customers in high-cost areas as well as low-income or disabled customers in other areas.

    Big River Receives Funding for Training Employees

    Jefferson City - State Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, announced that four more companies in the 27th Senate District will receive funding assistance through the Missouri Job Development Fund’s Customized Training Program to provide employee training.

    The Missouri Customized Training Program offers funding assistance to eligible Missouri employers for training and retraining new and existing employees. The four companies to receive a total of $27,169 for training 43 new and current employees are: Big River Telephone Company, Cape Girardeau; Jackson Machine & Manufacturing, Jackson; Sabreliner Corporation, Perryville; Spartech Plastics, Cape Girardeau.

    “Our district and our state as a whole are benefiting from these funding approvals,” Crowell said. “This year has been filled with moves to revitalize Missouri’s economy, and strengthening our workforce is a great way to do that.”

    As recently released, the ten other companies in Crowell’s district to also benefit from funding assistance for training are: Nordenia USA, Jackson; Ole Hickory Pits, Cape Girardeau; Pavestone, Scott City; Procter & Gamble Corporation, Jackson; S & W Cabinets, Chaffee; Tetra Pak Materials, Sikeston; TG Missouri, Perryville; Buzzi Unicem, Cape Girardeau; Havco Wood Products, Scott City; and Technology & Networking, Inc., Scott City.

    In Fiscal Year 2005, training assistance was approved for approximately 30,000 workers at more than 180 companies across Missouri.
