Holiday Turkey Drive

It's time for the annual Holiday Turkey Drive. Big River Telephone in conjunction with The Salvation Army, Schnucks, Mix 96.5, B 97.9, and Soft Rock 104.7 sponsors the annual Holiday Turkey Drive that helps families registered with The Salvation Army. Every Big River Telephone customer receives a voucher they can take to Schnucks along with a $10 donation to help provide a Holiday turkey to a family that is registered with the Salvation Army. Schnucks provides a turkey for every donation and Big River matches the donations that each customer gives. These vouchers are also available at the Customer Service at Schnucks and at Big River Telephone, 24 S. Minnesota, Cape Girardeau.

Did you know that Halloween did not become a holiday until the 19th century? Halloween originated from Ireland and is one of the oldest holidays that is celebrated.

An aged old tradition that originates from Ireland is the serving of a barmbrack; this is like a fruit cake. The special fruit cake contains a treasure that was used for "fortune telling." The 4 most common objects found in the barmbrack are a pea (represented being unmarried), a stick (represented a fighter), a piece of cloth (represented being poor), and a ring (the receiver would wed within the year). TRY THIS AT YOUR HALLOWEEN PARTY THIS YEAR!
